A new help against inflation comes in Vienna.
Due to inflation, Vienna has now announced another housing subsidy. Vienna’s mayor Ludwig once again criticized the federal government for failing to pass a rent brake.

As the city of Vienna announced, recipients of minimum security and benefits under the Unemployment Insurance Act, housing assistance or compensatory allowance will receive a one-time subsidy of 200 euros from September. This would benefit around 245,000 Viennese in the federal capital.

No application necessary for further help against inflation in Vienna
The city of Vienna said no separate application is necessary for the receipt. It is handled by the Municipal Department 40 (Social Affairs, Social and Health Law) or the pension insurance institutions on behalf of the City of Vienna. The transfer takes place automatically. A total of 48 million euros is available for this purpose. The final decision will be made in Vienna’s provincial parliament on June 21.

Vienna’s mayor Ludwig criticizes the federal government for missing the rent brake
With it, one supports all “those, which need this support now urgently”, stressed Vienna mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ). The rents “thanks to social housing” in Vienna are favourable compared to many international metropolises. However, the inflation – “especially on the private housing market” – is also noticeable here; Ludwig said: “Because on the part of the federal government it was neglected to set sustainable measures such as a rent brake. That is why we in Vienna have put together our own package for affordable housing.”
